Community

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Matthew 5:14-16

For many years TBC has been at the centre of the local neighbourhood of Longmead and Trench. Many activities have developed as TBC has sought to reach people at their point of need, providing opportunities where we can come as we are and be accepted.

We believe God wants to restore each of our lives; individually, as families and as communities, so we’re here to help. As we learn, we pass on our experience and our hope, in anticipation of God’s transformation.

We’re actively engaged with all ages within the local community and there are numerous opportunities to lead or to participate. Take a look at the activities listed below and see where your gifts could be used. Let’s be encouraged by Paul, one of the first agents of Jesus’ mission: ‘Love from the centre of who you are; don’t fake it … Be good friends who love deeply; Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality’ (Romans 12:9-13)

Regular activities

Open House

Every Wednesday & Friday

10 – 12 noon
@ Tonbridge Baptist Church

Open to all

Twice a week we invite anyone to come and find a warm welcome, friendship, a listening ear and a safe place at Open House. Enjoy tea, coffee, biscuits and chat; read the paper, and perhaps play games such as Scrabble and Pool. Our team of caring volunteers are happy to pray over problems with anyone who comes along.

Every Friday at 9:55am we hold ‘Friday Five’ – a five minute thought for the day – and once a month, ‘Reflections’ follows Open House. Four times a year we host a Film Night in the church, and provide refreshments.

Normal Open House meetings are from 10am – 12 noon, every Wednesday and Friday. For more information, contact the TBC office.

Burley Breakfast

Every last Saturday of the month

7.30 – 9am
@ Tonbridge Baptist Church

Open to all
Sign-up required

We are the Burley Small Group, and we want to use the gifts God has given us, to reach out to people. A main way we do this is through the Burley Breakfast, which meets one Saturday a month. This is open to everyone, young and old, from our neighbourhood. We provide a friendly welcome, a hearty breakfast, and friendship.

Dates and times are the last Saturday of the month, from 7:30 to 9am. Sign up for this by popping in to the church and signing up on the booking sheet in reception or by getting in touch with the TBC Office.

Do as much or as little as you can – if you can’t get on the floor, you can sit on a chair. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Wear comfortable clothing and trainers. Coffee is served afterwards, as we join our Open House group. Many stay on for Badminton.

Sustain Foodbank

Open to all

Sustain is a community food bank run by TBC. It exists to express God’s love through providing emergency food supplies to local people experiencing a short term need. All the food items are donated by individuals or local groups, and distributed to recipients referred by front line care agencies. Lists of the foods needed are available at the church reception, and items for donation can be left there.
